I had the exact same question. I think that should work because that is what must have been done for the patched firmwares that can be downloaded when setting DNS to samygo. Or am I missing something?
@GTK have you actually tried ?

1.modifications exe.DSP.to finished
2.copy your patched exeDSP into /mtd_rwarea folder
3.chmod 755 / mtd_rwarea exe.DSP
4.rename rc.local into user.ch
5.add before these lines the following line user.sh as in the tutorial I wiki.to finished.
6.copy user.sh in / mtd_rwarea.
7.reboot bd player.
8.script make only once.
these do not get it: After you Ensure it works good, you should remove that line , and name the file user.sh on the device.
which lines should be removed.
