Hi,

I live in Ireland and it appears that my ES8000 was not built for the irish, but for the eastern-european market (edit: it's a ue46es8000sxxh). During TV Setup (just before channel search beings) I can only select baltic countries, but not Ireland. I researched this topic, and it seems that some online retailers do grey-imports because the TVs are cheaper that way.

Since I would like to use Saorview (irish DVB-T), I'd like to use an irish firmware, because I read that the TV supports it when the country is set to Ireland.

Question:
1) Can I just download the Irish firmware from Samsung and flash it to my TV without bricking it? (http://www.samsung.com/ie/support/model ... -downloads)
2) If I can't do 1), is there any other way of rooting the TV in order to flash an irish firmware without a high chance of bricking the TV?

here is no Irish nor Lithuanian firmware. It is same firmware for all UE region models.

you have to change region in service menu, use IR method (check wiki) to enable greyed out menus.

thanks for the hint. I built my own IR transmitter using parts from the Samsung IR blaster and managed to enable the greyed out menu items. I changed my TV to UK.

However, I am not able to find any digital channels. Do I need to change the tuner settings also? I could not find any information what the different tuner settings mean. My TV is set to ALPS_TCS2 or is this for satellite only?

don't touch tuner settings, you can brick tv easilly.

are you sure here is dvb-t2 tuner inside? or digital television in ireland is dvb-t standart?

ALPS TCS2 means it is for dvb-t, dvb-c and dvb-s2

According to Samsung the TV supports DVB-T / C / S2, this is the same specification for the UK and the Romanian model, so in theory it should find channels. I read in some other forum posts that their tuner settings are called DVB_T2 etc. so why are mine called ECHO_TC2 or ECHO_Cti or ALPS_TC2? Is there any page that explains what the names mean? I get 0 results when I google them. Digital TV in ireland is DVB-T and should be compatible with both, DVB-T and DVB-T2. The government website even lists my TV model as compatible!

your tv has built in tunner, which supports dvb-t, dvb-c and dvb-s2. that's why it wont get dvb-t2 channels. Search for external dvb-t2 device and connect it via hdmi.
