WiFi direct

I have an HTC M8 and want to connect to my 2012 six series via Wi-Fi direct, as this seems much slicker than DLNA, however although the tv detects the phone, when I connect the tv says I should type the pin into the phone but the phone doesn't respond accordingly and times out. The reason I ask here is I was wondering if the Wi-Fi direct authentication could be configured to "none" as it were... Thanks for your time...
