You can but 5 series and a media player center instead of series 6. It is better for normal users.
Series 5 doesn't have Ethernet port and this is problem for playing with TV.
So this is why we have more active support for series 6 or later.
I prefer B550 for view quality because of anti-reflective surface.
But if you are wanted to play with your tv like a child (as we make) so needed to buy a Series 6 hardware, And If possible, not CI+ (T2P) models.

Re: B650 vs B550
If I were you, I bought B550 and use TV as Monitor. I cannot find B550 here so bought B650. I think computer over HDMI don't have picture quality of internal player. Even if you are using 1:1 mapping.
It is possible to support v2 fix on all v1 supported. But this requires low level ARM and ASM knowledge. And little chance.
I don't planning to implement v2 upgrade to those FW's near future.
B550's the worst problem is AFAIK the sliding words became unreadable. 100Hz think is not important feature at all. No one uses 100hz and I don't believe that is make picture clear.
Proper 50Hz is enough more than non-proper 100hz device.
I advice you to buy B550 and save money for upgrade to LED TVs which becomes comes affordable some years later.
