Yes you can change those files in that way.

You can make modifications on your PC by hacking firmware by hand.
It's long and old way also dangerous.

Instead, you can use "mount --bind" to show another file at /mtd_reqare section instead of that original file.
You can also edit this file. Problem is your change will gonna lost after you turn of the TV. You needed to make "mount --bind" that file again.
You can automatize this via "alternate way" by hacking fimrware via Firmware Patcher tool. Putting "mount --bind" command to required startup file, your changes will be permanent.
