Getting a ES6150F to work with my TTL cable

Post by dayssincethedoor »

I have a UN46ES6150F. I also have one of these cables:

http://www.ftdichip.com/Support/Documen ... CABLES.pdf

with the audio jack on the end. The picture in the data sheet for this cable is an exact match to the picture in this guide:

http://wiki.samygo.tv/index.php5/Ex-Lin ... rvice_port

I have set the RS232 to Debug in the service menu, when I connect to the port with this cable using the settings laid out in the guide I get nothing. I know the cable works with those settings because I use it with those exact same settings to connect to my Linksys router which works great. I have unplugged it from the TV and plugged it into the router without disconnecting or touching anything in putty and been able to log in the router and issue commands.

Am I missing something? Do I need to enable something else some where to get this port to work? Do I need to switch Tx and RX? Is my Ex-Link port dead? I have been fucking around with this for a while now.

I am a software engineer with 10+ years of Linux experience and some experience working with embedded systems. I need a new project and I think I found it in SamyGo. I want to help, but from what I have gathered this is pretty much requirement.

What I do know is there are a ton more options in this thing's service menu than the earlier model TVs. I am probably going to build one of these guys:

to see what else is in the restricted menus.

Which cable do you have - TTL-232R-3V3-AJ or TTL-232R-5V-AJ?
You will need the 3.3V version.

I have the 3.3V version. I figured out the problem (sort of). TX and RX are reversed. I figured that looking at the diagram on this page:

http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mb ... .cgi?19083

I built a little adapter to switch the two and now I am getting output. The image on the samygo wiki needs to be fixed. The problem I have now is that the baud rate is not right. Spent most of the morning messing with it. 115200 with no flow control does not work. Currently trying to find a good guide on guessing serial port settings. That's not going so well.

After speaking with monoschwarz the settings are right. I looked online and apparently the cable I have does not like certain types of power supplies. The Nokia cables are shorter and get less interference.

Hi there!

I probably can't help you much but I'm kinda in the same boat as you :-)

I own an UE46ES6300 and I just made the TTL cable from a Nokia following the wiki.
It pretty much worked without any issues. When I boot the TV i get the following on my terminal:

=================================
onboot (Mar 6 2012 - 15:38:26)
release ver : 1003 - RELEASE
L1 cache : on
etc : lvds data ctl
=================================

Onboot X10p Sync mode
LCD FastLogo Run...
Panel Init ...done
boot partition selection : 1
Loading 2nd Partition Kernel....
Loading Kernel....
load kernel size : 3224708 byte
UART1 is used to UART or logic mode.

auth success by h/w sha1
Jump Kernel....

However after this nothing happens.
I've tried to enter the codes explained in the wiki to get the prompt, but it doesn't seem to work.
I know that my cable work because if I short-circuit Tx and Rx on the tip of the jack I get local echo on my terminal.
Maybe the codes are diffrent for my model?

I'm going to enter service menu again tomorrow to verify that I've put the UART to debug mode, but I'm pretty sure I've done it.
(I hate getting all my settings reset every time I enter the service menu :x )

All help will be appreciated :D
