BD-E6100 sticks on Avatar 2D Blu-Ray menu

Post by Philip »

Can you guys help?

When I try to play an Avatar 2D Blu-Ray it gets stuck on the Menu with excerpts playing in the background. I see four Icons along the bottom but the left/right and up/down keys do not work. The only key that does anything is the Play one but that just gets it to reboot into the aforesaid menu. Other 2D Blu-Rays namely 2012 and T2 play fine. It is most frustrating.

I have updated to the latest firmware namely 1013 over the internet and even tried to download it to a USB stick and load it that way in case there was any difference to no avail. I have disabled BD Live, tried with a USB stick in the socket and I have taken the disc back to the shop and got another one but no go.

I have been waiting over a week for Samsung UK to get back to me.

Thanks.

Hi Philip,

Quick question can you use the tools menu when playing the disc? I.e if you are in the menu press tools on the remote and try choosing a different title you probably want 1 and in some cases you may have to do it before you reach the menu. I am not familiar with that particular bluray I.e I don't have it myself to tell you whether it is an error with the menu or not.
Have u tried the disc on a different bluray player?

Hello chaosmaker,
Thanks for your suggestions. Unfortunately the Tools button and all the other buttons, other than the Play button, do nothing other than bring up a "Not available" message. I don't have access to another Blu-Ray player at the moment. I might try and take it into a shop tomorrow to try there.
I was hoping there was some trick or hack to get round this problem. Searching the net does indicate that Samsung have had this problem in the past with other players. The latest firmware often cured it but I already have that.

Avatar 2D now plays OK. The problem was that the Blu-Ray was insisting on getting BD Live data before going any furter. On the suggestion of a TonyaNorway in the AVForums I did the following:
  • I went Network/BD-Live Settings/BD-Live Internet Connection and checked it was still set to Prohibit as before.
  • Then I went Network/BD-Live Settings/BD Data Managment and deleted BD data.
  • For good measure I disconnected the Network cable.
It then played OK. The furthest it had got to before was to the opening menu with the trailer in the background. The problem was compounded by the difference in the Menu buttons when they are selected being almost imperceptible.
