RT73 based usb wireless dongle

Post by isse »

Hello guys, this is my first post here and i'll get to the point.
I managed to borrow a wifi dongle, named MSI US54SE II. Even though it says MSI on it, they didn't bother to change the VID/PID to MSI and it remained with Ralink ones (148F:2573). It seems to be based on RT2501/RT2573 chipset and is/was supported by RT73 (old driver) or RT73usb. The main point is, the dongle IS NOT detected by 32C530 (modified to 550) unless the VID/PID is changed. The change has been made successfully (after three days of "hacking" through the old driver) and the TV detects it as Samsung dongle but... that's it. It gets detected but it doesn't work (it does not detect anything even though the router is right next to the TV).
I also tried other id (04E8:4471) which is not detected at all by the TV but windows 7 sees it at Samsung WLAN USB Stick.

So, the conclusions i draw from here are:
- the manufacturer id of the dongle MUST be Samsung in order to be taken into consideration by the TV.
- RT73 drivers are totally missing from the TV

If anyone thinks different or has any other ideas, please let me know.
Happy hacking!
Regards,
Me
