if you want to stream movies from you pc, then use Twonky on your pc select where your movie are located after that click source on your remote and you should be able to see Twonky and you are good to go - no need to root your TV for that :)

OK I feel a bit more informed. However here is the problem as it sits now. I am able to to stream some videos over my network using the "play to" function on Windows Media Player 12. The videos that I cannot view I get a message on my TV that says no supported (Picture shown below). The videos are virtualy the same, MP4 with h.264 video and mp3 audio. There might be some slight variations but nothing major that I can see. My question concerns the regulations of playback of such videos given by the firware of the TV. Somewhere in the firmware there is a regulatory file that does not allow certain playback. I don't know if this is a Samsung thing or a DLNA thing or both. I really would like to figure out what the issue is :o
Another thought I had was is there any way to enable SMB/NFS support on my TV? (UN55ES7100). It was suggested to me that this might solve my problem.

Can you play all your movies if they are on USB drive plugged directly to TV?

No I cannot play the videos either way. The problem is in the TV. I am willing to compensate someone who would be willing to help figure this out. At least help me to get an older firmware version on my TV to see if that might fix it. Or to help me figure out this somehow... YES PLEASE. I am pleading ignorance when it comes to this stuff... Most of the programming issues that folks are doing on this site are above my head... very confusing but I refuse to give up. Someone PLEASE HELP :o
