Bluetooth has been discussed elsewhere and was considered impractical, but you can certainly use a wireless (2.4GHz) keyboard/mouse.

I believe there was some trouble with supporting bluetooth keyboards and mice ( possibly having something to do with having to load the non-existant bluetooth-stack to support these devices, and that the devices would have to be added after the operating system finished loading) but as yo noted people have successfully tried other radiofrequencey devices i believe there is even a link to a recommended device on amazon.co.uk somewhere else on these forums.

Using IrDA devices would proably work so-so, because the IR adapter would have to sit on the back of the television set so RF device is certainly the way to go.

To contribute somewhat to the brainstorming: a patch specifically for the youtube widget to allow such a keyboard /mouse to be used would be very nice.
