HT-D5500 Firmware Downgrade Help

Post by ceasarjr8o8 »

I've been reading on the Firmware Downgrade section of this forum.
I've seen some people successfully downgrading the HT-D5500, and some unsuccessful. I'm one of those unsuccessful people because I can't seem to get it going. I've tried & tried, over & over again with the DNS procedure. All I've been getting is the 600 error codes & the 800 error codes. I'm not sure if I'm getting things right on the router end with the whole DNS thing but that's why I'm here to ask for some help.
Can anyone help me out here on how to get that DNS procedure to work with my HT-D5500 & my D-Link DI-604 router.

Hi Guys,

sorry nobody has answered your calls. There is a couple of things that I would like both of you to try.
1. Set DNS only on HT - leave router as it is
2. turn off the HT - unplug it completely
3. wait a little
4. start HT, check if internet settings are set properly (i.e. DNS is there) do not run the line check to the end, just make sure the DNS is the one reported by DNS trick post
5. try the update

If it doesnt work - unplug the HT for longer.
If that still doesn't work, there could be an issue with your connection, maybe try a friends internet connection preferably with another provider.

Let me know how you get on

Thank you Chaos!
I tried 5 times. each time I tried, I waited a little longer, but it still didn't work. Maybe I should try your other suggestion & bring my blu ray to a friend house w/a different provider.

Hello friends,
I've followed the 1 - 5 steps a few times but unfortunately I get the same Error 800. I went to a friend who has an other internet provider and it's the same Error. I even reset to factory default by pressing the stop button on the unit for 8 sec...set the DNS,unplugged 1 to 10mins....update via Internet...same result. I don't know what it's happening but it's something fishy going on... :x
Maybe the F/W ( B-FIRHT7WWC 1016(from 06.09.13 it's 1017) blocks connection to other server, or refuse to update from other servers)... I don't know what to think...
Any other ideas would be very appreciated.....

Thank you Chaos for the tips... ;)

  I would like to ask Admin and any other person,if there is a way to use the small tool ( SamsungRemote.exe) or other software to enable in the update window the line ''By downloaded" in that way maybe we can replace the F/W with other one clean...???? :geek:

Thank you so much for the effort!

I recive exactly the same messages as you do :( I think that there is a problem with the connection. Can someone confirm that they connect to the server and actually download a downgrade? If so, can the person send here photos with their settings? Because for now, it seems that no one can connect and the reason lies on SamyGO server side.

I'm on 1018 and get the same results.. I guess the update code was altered. It uses ssl and verifies update servers identity. This fails for the spoofed update servers..
I ma not sure what the validation check does.

It may be that samsung went for the quick fix and only it checks one or two CN field in the certificate (to save lookups). In that case we are lucky, because those fields may be spoofed by the hoster of the spoofed update server by installing a self issued certificate with the correct CN fields in place.

But when samsung went all the way and validates certificates with it's own root ca, we have a big set back. :-(

Our only hope is if some one would find a way to reset the device to factory firmware like maybe a samsung field engineers 'unbrick' procedure or something like that.

I was aiming to loose the cinavia junk and it seems I have succeeded.
Maybe you want to test this too, to verify this works, or proof it false.

What I did:

1. Factory reset.
2. Setup standard
3. Network setup: All LAN settings are good, but I gave the HT-D5500 no valid DNS, so it cannot connect to any servers outside my LAN, but i can run movies from my NAS.

I have one movie that is verified cinavia wasted (white house down) and before it was full of cinavia message 3 popups.
It has been running for the last hour and none of the cinavia popus that were there before are there now.

I guess cinavia relies on an internet connection at least once...
