BD-F6500 dvd region/downgrade?

Post by bdublues »

I bought a BD-F6500 from ebay hoping it would be a little older and have early firmware, it came with 1012 and none of the dvd region codes seem to work.

Is there no chance of downgrading the firmware ? I've managed to find a link to 1008.4 from a 3rd party site, the file is still hosted by Samsung, but I can't seem to install it via usb :(

I can't find anything older as of yet.

Region codes work fine for me with 1014.1 so you must be doing it wrong.
1. Turn off then on again, without a disk in the drive and wait for the graphical menu to appear.
2. Open the tray and close it again (still empty).
3. "No disk" will display on the TV at upper left.
4. The timing here is very critical. When "no disk" disappears, (don't jump the gun, wait for it to definitely disappear) hit REPEAT 76884 quickly. I found that pressing every half second or so just did not work; it had to be fast.
5. If this works, "4" (your region) will display top left. Press and hold the 9 key briefly. If OK, "9" will display instead of "4". If not, back to 2. There is no need to repeat 1.
6. Turn off then on again.

Try updating with the Au firmware but I think it is the same anyway

I tried everything I could find on 1012 that it came with, and then hoped maybe it was a bug and let it update to 1014.1 and tried everything again.

I think it works for you because either

- you had changed the region before upgrading your firmware
or
- you have an Australian player, there seems to be exceptions for those because of some legal policy.

The firmware on the AU page is binary identical to that on the UK page I already checked that, I think the sole way they tell if they're Australian or not is the region code. But that isn't stored in the firmware (this version anyway) :(

Holding the info button with the tray out tells me my player is definitely region two, so the code should either be repeat 5 7 5 3 8, or apparently Samsung has also used 3, 8, 7, 6, 7 for that region, but neither work with repeat, stop, or the subtitle button in front of the code, or surrounding it. with tray in or out, or waiting 30 seconds or 1 min after booting, or open/close the tray then wait for 'no disc' to disappear.

One report of simply letting it boot with the HDMI cable unplugged, and then plug it in after it's fully finished also hadn't helped.

I've never seen it display the current region from the code (only the info button trick) let alone been able to change it, I've seen some reports that the region isn't shown but keying in the sequence works anyway but I've had no luck, and a huge number of attempts.

I also found this so I would try each code to see if any work.
__________
Turn off/on.
Wait for system to load (boy it's quick).
Open/close disc tray (I didn't do this)
Press Repeat (try Stop if you don't have repeat on the remote).
Type in your region code (Oz was 76884, same as earlier models)
Current region number appears in top right corner.
Quickly press 9 to go multi-region free.
9 appears and seems to be set.

Region codes
1 - 2 9 3 3 4
2 - 5 7 5 3 8
3 - 5 6 7 3 2
4 - 7 6 8 8 4
5 - 5 3 8 1 4

I thought I had taken too long to make the change and started with Repeat, 76884 again but I actually just changed the region to 7.
So I hit Repeat, 76884 and 7 came up, pressed 9 and all good.
Seems we have a bit more time to type in the code for the change.
Now when I hit the Repeat 76884, the region is shown as 9.
__________

Edit: I have also read that UK versions of this machine have been locked down and nobody has been able to crack them with out actually adding a mod chip.

Hi, I write from Chile zone 4, and let free zone Samsung BD player F6500 is very simple, you just need to turn off and turn on the BD no disc, then open and close apretas code region, in this case 76,884, then the number 9 is the number to make it multizone and ready.
Now you can enjoy your DVDs from all regions.

Regards.

Region codes
1 - 2 9 3 3 4
2 - 5 7 5 3 8
3 - 5 6 7 3 2
4 - 7 6 8 8 4
5 - 5 3 8 1 4

Hello
Can someone advise if region code change is still possible on BDF 6500?
I purchased it recently with firmware 1018.
Thanks
