NFC Remote in HT-F9730W

Post by Timmy1024 »

Hi there,

The remote in this device has NFC support. Supposedly, you could pair a phone with the home theather (via bluetooth) just by touching the "N" tag at the back of the remote.

The thing is that this doesn't work. When I touch it with the phone, it opens the web browser to the Samsung site instead of initiating the pairing procedure.

I've checked the user manual and the whole thing is pretty confusing. Supposedly, the remote automatically pairs to the home theater the first time you turn it on and the REMOTE PAIRED legend appears:

Code: Select all

Initial Pairing
To pair NFC devices with your Home Theater, you first must
pair the remote control and the Home Theater. Pairing
occurs automatically when you press any button on the
remote after turning on the Home Theater for the first time.
When the pairing is completed, REMOTE PAIREDis
displayed on the front display within max 20 seconds.
It also states that you could manually re-pair it by pressing the PRESET and EFFECT buttons for a while. I've tried it a gazillion times and it doesn't do anything:

Code: Select all

If the pairing is failed, you must re-pair it manually.
To pair NFC devices with your Home Theater again,
press and hold the both PRESETand EFFECTbuttons
simultaneously for more than 2 second after 35 seconds
from power on.
When the re-pairing is completed, REMOTE PAIREDis
displayed on the front display.
This raises several questions:

- By "after 35 seconds from power on" what does it mean? BEFORE 35 seconds? AFTER? I've tried both with no luck
- How would it supposedly pair if the remote isn't "smart"? I mean, it doesn't have bluetooth connection, it only send IR signals to the home theater. How would the remote receive the bluetooth MAC address (and other data) to make use of the NFC and allow further pairing of phones with the remote?
- It also doesn't say "point at the home theater" or anything at all, as if the remote would magically pair via a wireless communication!

So... do any of you actually have this remote working correctly? Any ideas on how this is supposed to work?

Thanks
