BD-F5900 latest firmware

New donate member here - just purchased Samsung BD-F5900, comes with latest Samsung firmware, 1018.0, dated 10/22/2014. I've read through every relevant thread on the Extras and Other-Blu-ray section, and with apologies, I still have a few questions:

1) It looks like turning off OTN for F-series devices will require a FaNet adapter. Am I safe (enough) if I just disable the automatic firmware upgrade in the standard system menu, skipping this FaNet step, or is it a must to buy/build this cable for security from new firmwares disabling my root?

2) Is the 1018.0 firmware confirmed still hackable using the FAT USB key method for F-series blu-ray?

3) I had no success attempting to use the python script to decrypt the update.msd firmware file for F-series, which I did hoping to make a permanent exeDSP patch. I take it this is not possible at present, and the usb key method is the best alternative, even though it requires usb key permanently inserted? (I'd love to patch the system firmware, but using BinWalk all I see is Salted encrypted components plus a VM.)

4) My purpose for rooting / defeating Cinavia was to use Plex app with movie rips. Am I correct launching Plex app will automatically load the Cinavia patch, since Plex App is part of Samsung Smart Hub? I just want to make sure I have the setup with a high WAF, so there's no lengthy instruction set prior to her use of Plex.

Not sure this cable would be of any use. Even if you succeed in reaching factory menu, you probably won't be able to access OTN support option. Disabling automatic upgrade in standard menu is the least thing you can do (even if generally ineffective).

Those are outdated methods for F series, it's most certainly impossible to make a permanent patch without near to 100% fail/brick risk.

Booting with USB stick does nothing You have to run the app

Right, but the app never appears on the hub Thought that's what the USB stick was for, to make it show up there.

No you misunderstood it USB stick is REQUIRED to make up appear but (at least it looks so) it's not what makes app appear. What makes app appear is you (the user) who does everything he/she can to make app appear One of the simplest ways is to read bluray rooting thread and TV rooting thread there are many suggestions there on how to make it work

Thank you both!! Last question - will the changes made by running the Samsung_Bluray_F app stick, "permanently" (As long as stick not removed) ? I know the stick needs to be in to run the app, and to enable Cinavia, but I figured that running the App that one first time accomplished some kind of purpose making a system change of some kind, that made subsequent processes (like telnet access) available upon autostart with the usb key in.

Nothing is permanently applied to BD player. Rooting and patching processes are repeated on every restart through USB stick contents. That's why it works only as long as USB stays plugged.
