Without realising the consequences, I allowed my Samsung Blu-Ray player - BD-F5500 to update its firmware to BSP-F5500WWB-1021.1
Now, I have no sound over the HDMI and on googling, it seems the firmware upgrade must have something to do with it.
Two options have been suggested in various forums:
1. Reflash the upgrade once again over USB.
This does not work as the upgrader looks at the version number and tells me there is no need to upgrade as I already have the latest version.
2. Downgrade to an earlier firmware version - I have BSP-F5500WWB-1009.4 version downloaded from the net, but this also will not take as it is an earlier version.
I need help to patch any of these to show that it is a newer version so that the upgrader will flash the firmware and hopefully, get back my sound over HDMI.
I have found two places using a hex-editor where the version numbers are mentioned in the firmware. Would changing the hex values to a later version do the trick?
I don't want to brick my device with experimenting and hence, relying on the superior knowledge of the masters in this forum for guidance.
