USB-Mediaplay and DLNA: Movies too slow?

Postby hmuenz » Mon Jul 05, 2010 8:50 am

Hi,

last weekend, I watched some TV recordings on my Samsung UE40B8090. Some were stored on a USB stick and some came via DLNA from my computer. All these movies showed a longer playtime on the info display of my TV than on any mediaplayer of my PC. An average TV movie, which had a playtime of 1:30 on my computer (VLC and Gnome-Media-Player), had a 1:45 playtime displayed on the info screen of my TV. This happended with avi-Div/X files and with avi-h.264 files as well.

Unfortunately I discovered this issue at the end of the last movie, so I could not check if the real playtime was too slow or if it is just the indicated playtime.

Is that a known issue? I tried the search function in this forum, but could not find any corresponding posting.

Regards
Heiner

DLNA of B series is too buggy. Use Samba/NFS instead of it....

And don't know if there is time issue on my TV. Does it differ it says 1:30 or 1:40 on info screen? It's no problem since TV plays them properly :)

I really would like to use samba or nfs - and see my PAL 16:9 movies correctly as well. But unfortunately my TV is brandnew, with a brandnew firmware...

Honestly, I didn't use samba once! NFS is good and speedy... :)

Is NFS the same as UPNP ?

I just get UPNP server running, but it is not running lots of films (says the files are not supported) and looks worse than seeing the same files from the USB directly...

No, It is Network File System. Natively support by linux kernel. Also Mac has such an option. In Windows, you needed to use some NFS server programs. But I think it's better solution even for windows.
