How to use PVR to NAS

Post by avion »

Hello,
Sorry for this topic, but I can not find anything useful on forum.
I want to use PVR to my Samba share. I am using Samygo for watching movies from my share PVR (Timeshift) is not enabled on my TV.
What do I have to do, to enable it? Something with service menu? Than do I have to do anything to enable to store recording autmatically to samba share?
I found PVR+ 3.x but I don't find link to download it. Thank you for your help in advance.

IIRC you have an exotic E with only cifs.ko module working for now. Theoretically it would first need to have a *full* SamyGO, but anyway for some reason all tries to record to smb using "traditional" methods on E-MST failed.
Only reliable way found is to use PVRtoTS, which is in donor's area, and is kind of cheating because it needs to keep a physical USB as buffer for current recording. However it allows to record directly unencrypted and using some additional stuff to dynamically rename recordings to intelligible filenames (and should work even with your bald SamyGO :) ).

ps: PVR+ is not suitable at all for E series

And what about "my way" ? :) It should work on ANY device :D I believe there was going to be some tutorial for this ? :)
I do NOT support "latest fw" at ALL. If you have one you should block updates on router and wait for it to STOP being "latest":)
If you want me to help you please paste FULL log(s) to "spoiler"/"code" bbcodes or provide link(s) to pasted file(s) on https://pastebin.com Otherwise "NO HELP"!!!
If you want root DISABLE internet access to your device!!!!
DO NOT EVER INSTALL FIRMWARE UPGRADE !!!!

"my way" is an old song ;)
A tutorial? Yeah, there's one: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=8512 :)
But nobody got USB gadget to work on E-MST so it must be pointless. More, as I said above the guy has an exotic model (vermagic=0063) and consequently no working modules at all except quickly hex-edited cifs.ko (which is enough to use PVRtoTS over smb, that's why I stand by my advice) :)

Dear zoelchat and sectroyer,
Thank you for both your answers.
Zoelchat in a meantime (since our last conversation) my tv had broken. I took it on a service. They had to replace mainboard. That's why I had to reinstall SamyGo completely. It is interesting, that yesterday I didn't have to import exotic cifs.ko (that you created for me), but just instal Sammygo, change samba server and samba sharing was working. That's why I am guesing that my I can still use PVR to NAS. What do you think?
Aha, but I am not sure what is my firmware, because I get this output: root@(none) phpsysinfo $ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.35.13 (jison@localhost.localdomain) (gcc version 4.4.1 (VDLinux GA-release2 OpenMP...

If that is not possible, what about "traditional" recording to seperate USB disk?

Do you think is it possible that problems with broken mainboard are because of Samygo? I hope not.

Then you probably don't have exotic vermagic anymore but most probably 0064, and full SamyGO.

Surely no, at least nobody succeeded on E-MST AFAIK.

The right commands are (vermagic then firmware)

Code: Select all

cat /.version
cat /mtd_exe/.product

Do you mean you can't natively record to USB? In such case it would need to enable it somewhere in service menu.

Definitely no. :)

Zoelechat,
Thank you for your answer. As fair I understand for PVR to NAS it does not matter if I have complete Samy go or just samba, because it does not work in any case. For enabling PVR to USB, I just have to enable it through service menu.
Do I have to install anything else?
Is there any tutorial how to enable it (what are the steps in service menu)?

I and many users use it for years :)

Yeah, but not on E-MST :)

@avion
No, there's no tutorial because nothing is "universal", but there are already many threads about that.
To access (extended, just in case) service menu, follow wiki, use this method: http://wiki.samygo.tv/index.php5/How_to ... FF_ONLY.29
Install samyGOrc as advised, and use the 2nd command from TV operating state, it's the easiest way (=INFO+FACTORY):

Code: Select all

samyGOrc -p $(pidof exeTV || pidof exeDSP) 31; samyGOrc -p $(pidof exeTV || pidof exeDSP) 59
Then you have to look for something like PVR_RECORD_NUM (probably in Control submenu but you can chack anywhere else if you don't find it there) and set it to 1.
Be careful!!! left/right change values WITHOUT confirmation, use only up/down(/return/enter) until you're on the option you want to change.
Power cycle TV and try to record (DTV only of course)

Zoelchat,
Are there more advanced/service menu?
Because I can easily acess the one from remote. Power of tv, than INFO+TOOLS+MUTE+Power on.
But I can not find PVR setting. I also tried with app that you suggest, but I am also not able to find setting for PVR.
Any idea?
