Buyer's guide - what to watch out when buying a new H series

Post by mad_ady »

Hello guys! Congratulations on all your hard work!

I'm a new member of the community and I'd like to understand what I should look out for when investing in a H series TV (I'm especially looking at H6400).

I understood from the wiki and a forum developer that the first thing to do is disable automatic updates.

I'd like to ask the following:
* how often does samsung push updates? How often do they do it for older models? How often do they fix something (e.g. hdmi negociation, etc)
* how many devs are working on rooting newer firmwares? If I get a tv with a new firmware what can I try to do to root it? (Or is the root procedure the same for all H devices?)
* can I downgrade a stock firmware to a rootable firmware via usb?
* does anybody have a "crystall ball" to read samsung's mind and tell us if tizen-based firmwares will come to h-series? :)

As far as I understand the sammygo additions require a usb drive to be permanently connected and exploit some vulnerability during boot, meaning it's not a permanent flash, right? Does this mean that there's no way for samsung's service to void your warranty if you need it later? Or does it trip some "knox"-like counter?

Thank you all for your help!

I'm not too fond of samsung and the way they treat modders (being very closed and secretive), but thanks to this community's work, it's the best moddable product on the market.

@Moderators: if this is not the correct place for my post please move it to the appropiate section.

Also, does the firmware (stock or mod) transform the tv into a chromecast receiver?

Any news on Tizen? I guess we're forked, aren't we? Waste of money, wasn't it? Buying last year's models. I so fucking hate Samsung right now.
