Root UN58H5202AF FW 1120.1 Can't Disable OTN
Root UN58H5202AF FW 1120.1 Can't Disable OTN
I have a model UN58H5202AF on firmware 1120.1 (T-NT14MAKUC-1120.1). I can access extended service mode but disable OTN option is greyed out (I have auto updates disabled in main menu which is stopping an update to 1121 currently). There is an Ex-link port on this unit. Any ideas if this model/firmware is currently rootable? I'm happy to lend a hand with any investigation efforts as needed
Thanks!
Thanks!

Well it doesn't matter since you will keep on getting unwanted firmware updates. You can contact Samsung and ask why your (lie it's NOT on warranty) TV keeps on getting firmware updates which might brick itequinoxe wrote: Any ideas if this model/firmware is currently rootable?
I do NOT support "latest fw" at ALL. If you have one you should block updates on router and wait for it to STOP being "latest":)

Re: Root UN58H5202AF FW 1120.1 Can't Disable OTN
Thanks for the quick reply! My TV came from the factory with these settings so Samsung is now playing dirty and vandalising people's personal property with forced updates. Do you know if the OTN setting can be changed in the TDM via Ex-Link? If I somehow root the TV (perhaps with an exploit) is the OTN setting in a config file that is changeable or is it in a non-accessible area that cannot be changed outside of config menu?
Re: Root UN58H5202AF FW 1120.1 Can't Disable OTN
Currently no other method (beside service menu) is known for changing OTN Support. Anyway even if you find "some config file" it's possible samsung didn't simply block the way to change "the setting" but simply now ignores itequinoxe wrote:Thanks for the quick reply! Re: Root UN58H5202AF FW 1120.1 Can't Disable OTN
It seems that a blacklist of hosts/addresses should be created for Samsung TVs to be able to prevent OTN updates for future models? This would have to be implemented through the router for non-rooted TVs. With rooted TVs, I suppose one could update /etc/hosts or add an invalid routing entry to the routing table on the TV to prevent it from connecting.
Re: Root UN58H5202AF FW 1120.1 Can't Disable OTN
Interestingly whilst I can't disable OTN in service menu I disabled auto-update in consumer menu which turned off nag to update to new version. So far after a month the TV remains on the original version it came with so I'm wondering what would happen if I just go ahead and root it?
