Hi !
Samsung has not developped its dlna server for mac OS X. So we have to use third party applications.
Any good experience with one of them ?
TwonkyMediaServer works quite well but it's not very stable. Sometimes, TV doesn't detect the server, sometimes, it detects but can't read. I don't know if this instability comes from Twonky or from TV.
When all is fine, i can play itunes music, iphoto photos and videos, which is what we are waiting indeed.
[MAC USERS] which dlna server ?

dlna reads good and everybody think it is a new and super good technology.jojomail wrote:Hi !

but it is simply not true, dlna has strict restrictions to media formats, in theory the client can request
a specific format for a media file and than the server schould transcode and stream it in that format to the client
but never saw a full working implementation.
windows has also a buildin upnp server why samsung tv aren't full compatible with them? you can better sell
devices what suggests a "brand new technology".
btw. what should "dlna certified" realy mean???? but sounds better like "our device can play a lot of media formats, but we let jou just use standard formats"
prefer to use nfs.

Re: [MAC USERS] which dlna server ?
yes i agree, nfs, or samba for me, is far much better and stable but i think it's not possible to share itunes playlists or iPhoto album by this way (no problem for shared video folders). And when you have tons of mp3 or jpeg well arranged in dedicated libraries, it's hard to change habits !
that's why a good implementation of dlna could be the solution.
But it may be a dream for now...

may i am not up to date but if you mean this itunes stuff from apple (pc software for ipod music management)jojomail wrote:yes i agree, nfs, or samba for me, is far much better and stable but i think it's not possible to share itunes playlists or iPhoto album by this way (no problem for shared video folders). it is just a database, the music files are on the ipod device.
some years ago a friend of me had 2 ipods and the stupid software always deleted the music files from one device,
it wasn't capable to manage more devices. (some apple try of copy protection?)
on linux it was possible mount the ipod and access the files direct (had a strange file structure but the mp3 files are present)
so put your ipod to tv and mount it

than may gtkpod can goes to sdl

The one that works the best is by far twonky... But you can't play alot of video formats as it gives you "formt not supported", you can't FF, RW or Pause videos, etc...
It's just not stable and feature rich enough to use IMO...
Patch your TV firmware and use Samba to access Shared Folders on your MAC... Works really good! So far no complains at all
but how do you stream iTunes music and iPhoto Library ?
Yes i know it's not the first goal of a TV, but i would like to do that, and Samba shares can't (or i don't know how to do)
