Colorful screen? I think you are using old version of SamyGO Extensions Pack.
Try it with newer one. You can also debug process via telnet...

FW patch will not place Samba hack....
If you can enable telnet, you can manually mount samba shares too.
But I preffer Content Library Application.
I don't know why it's not working on your TV. I think you needed to read some wiki pages.

I don't think if restricted firmware restricts samba too. But this possible too.
It's better to downgrade your FW to older firmware since 2007.1 is not supported.
Soon, I will place a utility that reverts firmware automatically. So you can revert your firmware just executing a program.
If you could enable telnet of your TV, you can manually run Content Library Utility Script via shell so you can identify real error.
You just needed to execute /SamyGO/etc/04_04_samba.init file manually.
You can also check kernel messages with 'dmesg' command to look if samba (cifs.ko) module is mounted to your TV properly.
Good lucks.

I think it's not so hard to configure it.
Do you tested that if you can connect your server from another computer?
