Network access to internal HDD of BD-H8909S ?

Post by tla »

Hi guys!

I recently bought a BD-H8909S BluRay player/satellite receiver/hard disk recorder combo. The list of features really sounded nice and I planned to move my video collection onto that thingie, because my NAS is starting to run out of space.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way to access the built-in HDD via network from a computer. I had to open up the device, and plug the HDD into my PC. I could copy everything over, but this is a rather anoying strategy for the future... (and I don't want to go into how idiotic the UI of this damn thing is... Only way to browse through my library on the disk is via search function...)

Could you please point me in the right direction on how to get some Samba, SSH, FTP or similar access to the player?

I did a portscan:

Code: Select all

$ nmap 192.168.178.3

Starting Nmap 6.40 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2014-11-17 22:20 CET
Nmap scan report for 192.168.178.3
Host is up (0.0079s latency).
Not shown: 994 closed ports
PORT STATE SERVICE
4443/tcp open pharos
6001/tcp open X11:1
7676/tcp open imqbrokerd
8080/tcp open http-proxy
8443/tcp open https-alt
9900/tcp open iua

Nmap done: 1 IP address (1 host up) scanned in 0.18 seconds
So it seems there's a X11 and an HTTP server running. The HTTP server didn't yield anything interesting on first trial, besides a 404 and a 401 error page.
And for the X11, I guess I would need a shell connection, too? *headscratch*

Any ideas on how to use these ports properly?
Any ideas what the other ports are for?

I have a somewhat older Samsung Telly in the office (don't know the name now, was a cheap 46" without any 3D gimmicks and the like) and the OS seems very much newer on this BD-H. It says, it's version is "1005". No updates so far.

Also, all the remote apps in the Android Play Store and iTunes App Store don't work with it. With the TV, they do... Very annoying.

Sooo: Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for your help!

Sorry, i have got the BD-H8500 just yesterday, i can access everything on HDD with media player but i have the same problem that i can't write any files from my pc to built in hdd - this is very annoying because samsung homepage makes you think, this would be possible... so the built in HDD is rather useless...

Does anyone else have any idea - would be great, thanks
