BD-F5900 auto update option

Post by ralsam »

Hi everyone!

I have the BD-F5900 blu-ray player and have a very simple question about it.
I have never connected the player to the internet up to now. I do not want to upgrade it to a later firmware. I know that after connecting it to the net it will start checking for update and I want to disable this option.
There is an option in the settings menu to set the auto update OFF. Is this enough to stop it from downloading a new firmware or there should be something more to be done - like going to service menu and changing something...
Thanks in advance for the assistance!

A short chat with the Samsung online support gave me the answer - they confirmed it is enough to set Auto update OFF so I did it and connected the device. One hour online already and no attempts to update...

Well they lied to you :) It is CONFIRMED that samsung "FORCES" some updates EVEN with auto update set to OFF :P

P.S. Remember to disable OTN Support ASAP!!!!
I do NOT support "latest fw" at ALL. If you have one you should block updates on router and wait for it to STOP being "latest":)
If you want me to help you please paste FULL log(s) to "spoiler"/"code" bbcodes or provide link(s) to pasted file(s) on https://pastebin.com Otherwise "NO HELP"!!!

For F Blurays it's same as for F TVs :)

OK - like F TVs but how to enter the service menu when I do not have the exact buttons on the blu-ray remote. No MUTE button, several MENU butons???

This big read under my signature shows how to get to EXTENDED Service Menu :) On bluray devices you have to use same methods as NON-MST TVs. MUTE or MENU buttons are NOT needed in order to get to EXTENDED Service Menu :)

Thanks again for assisting me...
My question was actually how to get into the service menu first...
In order to do that I have to press
[MENU] [MUTE] [POWER] and on the blu-ray remote I do not have MUTE button and I have several MENU buttons...
I also have a Samsung TV but I am quite sure the TV remote will not work on the F5900 blu-ray...
So the question is how to get to the service menu first and just then I will look for a way to go to the extended menu...
Thanks!

INFO+FACTORY should bring you directly to extended service menu. Problem is, like you say, IR codes are not the same on TVs and BDs so for now the only known way is to root your device then send INFO+FACTORY using samyGOrc command.
