Hi all,
my starting conditions are:
LE40C630 (modified to become 650)
TVALDEUC fw 3008, for Italy.
dongle DLINK, DWA-140, REV B2. vidpid = 07d1:3c0a
Using WPA2 does not work with original drivers. As previously stated in this tread, I'm using module rt3370sta.

I can thus telnet to the TV, but when I do
Menu -> Setup -> Network -> Test
i get this kind of response:
MAC OK
IP etc, OK
Ping GW OK
Test internet services FAILED!!!!

If I use LAN cable, everything is working fine (I mean starting the TV without wifi dongle and LAN cable attached). Both LAN cable and wifi connect to tha same DSL router.

I'm thus "forced" to test the hardware method changing vid/pid of the dongle.
I already have ubuntu 11.04 on the laptop, and downloading the packages.

I will let you know, but if you have any hint for me, I'll be glad to hear from you.

Why do you try to re-compiling drivers? Ubuntu doesn't recognized your dongle?
Or built in drivers doesn't support e2p flashing?

it is not working, it seems to have problems with ubuntu itself. I'm googling for
ubuntu dwa 140 b2
and maybe i will find something. Anyhow here it is what I did this afternoon:

Code: Select all

I was trying to recompile the module because the russian forum/message reported in previous post indicated that a recompilation is necessary, but if it is not, it is good for me.

Am I missing something too obvious just because I'm tired?
thanks

Why don't you try with latest backtrack? I believe their drivers supports e2p flashing commands..

Re: [How-To] Alternatives of Samsung WiFi Link Stick

Post by Luk1970 »

just tried using backtrack 5R1.
Driver works and the stick is able to scan the networks (in ubuntu it didn't work) but when typing the command

Code: Select all

iwpriv wlan1 e2p 208 = 4E8
wlan1   no private ioctls.

tried both with rt2800usb module and with rt2870sta staging module, with no success. I always got response as above.

I will try other distro, but I already have spent too much time on that. May be it will be more useful to buy another stick easier to patch ...

One question: do you mind it is possible to insert into the extension package the modules "e2p enabled"? In that way we will be able to change vid/pid directly from the tv upon telnetting to it.

anyhow many thanks for you great work and support.

Himm. I don't know if there is any kernel requirement for that. TV's kernel is too old and might not support e2p enabled modules... I think arris will make some magic if it's possible.

I had same problem until i recompiled driver for my ubuntu. After that i had no more ioctls problem and changed VID&PID successfully.

What is needed to change for custom driver:
Some preparation. Install required bunaries/sources

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install build-essent
sudo apt-get install linux-headers- $(uname -r)
1. Download driver sources for your ubuntu mashine.
2. Open /os/linux/config.mk and change:

Code: Select all

# Support ATE function
HAS_ATE=y

# Support Wpa_Supplicant
HAS_WPA_SUPPLICANT=y

# Support Native WpaSupplicant for Network Maganger
HAS_NATIVE_WPA_SUPPLICANT_SUPPORT=y
3. Open /os/linux/usb_main_dev.c, add this code:

Code: Select all

MODULE_LICENSE("GPL");
.
So it should look like:

Code: Select all

MODULE_AUTHOR("Paul Lin <paul_lin@ralinktech.com>");
MODULE_DESCRIPTION("RT2870 Wireless Lan Linux Driver");
MODULE_LICENSE("GPL");
#ifdef CONFIG_STA_SUPPORT
#ifdef MODULE_VERSION
MODULE_VERSION(STA_DRIVER_VERSION);
#endif
#endif // CONFIG_STA_SUPPORT //
4. Compiling driver:

Code: Select all

sudo make
sudo make install
sudo rmmod rt2870sta
sudo rmmod rt2800usb
sudo rmmod rt2x00usb
sudo rmmod rt2800lib

5. removing any modules if exist (check by lsmod | grep rt)

Code: Select all

sudo rmmod [module-if-exists]
6. Load your custom driver

Code: Select all

insmod path_to_driver/os/linux/rt3070sta.ko
7. Insert your wifi stick and change VID&PID according manual.

Thank you juuso,
using antoher pc I was finally able to compile and load the driver.
My stick is DWA140 HW Rev B2
07d1:3c0a

From ralink site, I donwloaded the driver for
2011_0407_RT3070_RT3370_RT5370_RT5372_Linux_STA_V2.5.0.2
compiled it fine (just warnings) installed, and then loaded the module.

Just one note, the module name is rt5370sta.

Module loaded correctly, dmesg without errors.

Tried

Code: Select all

iwlist ra0 scanning
just to be sure everything is working, and correctly the list of net has been shown.

tried then

Code: Select all

root@HP-d530:~# iwpriv ra0
ra0       Available private ioctls :
          set              (8BE2) : set 1024 char  & get   0
          connStatus       (0004) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          driverVer        (0005) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          bainfo           (0006) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          descinfo         (0007) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          radio_off        (000A) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          radio_on         (000B) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          show             (0015) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          adhocEntry       (0016) : set 1024 char  & get 2047 char
          bbp              (8BE3) : set 2047 char  & get 2047 char
          mac              (8BE5) : set 1024 char  & get 1024 char
          rf               (8BF3) : set 2047 char  & get 2047 char
          e2p              (8BE7) : set 1024 char  & get 1024 char
          stat             (8BE9) : set   0       & get 2047 char
          get_site_survey  (8BED) : set   0       & get 1024 char

and works well.

Tried then to change the eprom values with e2p

Code: Select all

root@HP-d530:~# iwpriv ra0 e2p 0208=0x04E8
ra0       e2p:0208=0x04E8
root@HP-d530:~# iwpriv ra0 e2p 020A=0x2018
ra0       e2p:020A=0x2018
root@HP-d530:~# iwpriv ra0 e2p 0208
ra0       e2p:
[0x0208]:0x07D1
root@HP-d530:~# iwpriv ra0 e2p 020a
ra0       e2p:
[0x020A]:0x3C0A
dmesg reports nothing, no errors indicated.

tried to rmmod but

Code: Select all

root@HP-d530:~# rmmod rt5370sta
ERROR: Module rt5370sta is in use
root@HP-d530:~# rmmod -f rt5370sta
ERROR: Removing 'rt5370sta': Resource temporarily unavailable
removed the stick, removed the module, re-loaded it: it automatically reload the old module rt2870. Anyhoe the vid&pid are the original ones.

Then reboot, insert module 5370, insert stick, and lsmod lsusb and dmesg is:

Code: Select all

root@HP-d530:~# lsmod
