UN32EH5300F Problems

Post by louloizides »

So, apparently the Samsung tech support guys are idiots!!! I've had tons of problems with them, so I'm hoping I can turn here for help from people who have a little better knowledge on the subject...

I purchased a UN32EH5300F at work, hoping it could display an internal page on my company's intranet that updates every few minutes. We use WPA2 enterprise encryption on our wireless network here. I wrote an e-mail to Samsung before I purchased the TV asking if it supported WPA2 enterprise or just personal. Sure enough they wrote back saying it supported enterprise - but the only type I see in the menu is PSK (personal). Not the end of the world - I can always add a bridge.

The bigger problem is the fact that the TV insists the network isn't working when it can't reach the internet. We use a proxy here to get to the internet, so the TV will never be able to reach it - but that's fine, I only need it go get to an intranet page. The TV gets the DHCP address and would be able to get to the page I need it to just fine, except for the stupid warning that comes up every time I try to start the web browser saying it's not connected.

I've been able to get around it like this:
1) Tether the TV to my cellphone and let it connect to the internet
2) Start the web browser (now there's no warning)
3) Connect the cable to my company's network and let the TV get a new IP address
4) Even though the warning comes up saying it's not connected, since it has a new IP I can browse to the internal website (which actually looks great on the TV)

The problem with this method is that after a few minutes the TV seems to lose the connection again, so the refresh on the page isn't working. Does anyone know of a way to get around this "no connected" warning and start the web browser anyway? Not allowing you to even start the browser seems really short sighted. I've asked tech support about it and all I've gotten is a bunch of nonsense about how it's not a computer and can't "download files" internally (these guys seem to have no idea of what they're talking about, nor do they understand that web pages don't have to be on the internet).

If there's no solution using the current firmware, is there a custom one available for this model that might solve the problem?
