Almost bricked my UE55ES6305, got questions.

Post by remorsaan »

Ok, first i'm not sure if my subject statement is correct or not.
I'm new to this forum, and quite frankly new to my tv.
Got it a few weeks ago.

Here's the story.

1st day: Got my tv home, set it up. Went to bed.
2nd day: I found out a smart tv might be practical. Got the healthy thought that this thing might be hackable. I did a little googling and found an article (not related to this site i think) that said something about changing what area the tv was in, in the service menu. This to be able to install apps restricted to another area.

I tried this, didnt work, or didnt open the option where i change area.
I didnt really read up on the service menu before doing this, so i started browsing around in the service menu, trying not to mess anything up but not being overly carefull either and i started changing some values and changing them back.. Ok so far.

Then i went in to the options menu. And i accidentally got a bit confused and pressed sideways on the "Type: 55xxxxxx" tab. I somewhat panicked and noticed i changed an option i didnt mean to. I then went back to where i thought i was when i accidentally...
I then proceed to turn off/on the tv. Phew it seems right.. Then i switched on 3d and the whole screen turned black then gradually intensly white. I turn off the tv, and man; bricks where shat.

I start googling again before turning the tv on. I find this informative site that has a disclaimer saying i can brick my tv; More bricks where shat.
I go back into the service menu, i start changing all the setting i changed back to normal (at this point i actually thought the "type" setting was at normal). Nothing happens. I try entering the SVC menu, same thing as when i pressed the 3d button happened (actually the 3d button and changing image style to cinema).
I start going over every setting i can find, and where at the point where im positive everything is as it was when new.
It still didnt change the white cloudy screen crash thing.
I go to sleep. didnt sleep much.

3rd day.

After a more or less sleepless night, i started looking at the tv again. Figuring i'll make use of the 30day open purchase service the store offers. But since this was a sunday and the shop is closed on sundays. I thought I might as well go in to the service menu and check again.
Then the eureka moment suddenly came to me; i remembered i accidentally messed around with the Type value. And maybe, just maybe i didnt get it right.
I then proceed to write down what type i was on then (i dont remember now) and go forward and backward. The type i was on was something 55xxxxxx, the one to the right was 60xxxxx or similar. the one left was 55xxxxxx. So i change to the one left thinking i missed with number.
And phew, it seemed to work. 3d was fine. Or atleast the screen didnt crash.

I figuered everything was working and decided not to mess around with it.

Today:

I'ts been a few weeks since i nearly had a heart attack.
I heard something about an app i could find in the samsung app store thing. I didnt find the app and figuered maybe i had to update the software to get it. But when im in the normal menu (not service menu) i couldnt select the "look for firmware update" option.

I then out of curiosity proceeded to go to the service menu again and i found a third option for 55" screen under the Type setting (which is what i figuered the 55 meant in the type setting is). I tried this after out of caution writing down every value in the SVD menu, and alas i can choose to look for updates again.

But there are some different values in the svd menu. And i figuered maybe someone here might be know which is the right type setting by looking at them. Just so that i get confirmation that it is on the right setting.

As i said, i dont remember what one of the 3 type settings for 55" tv is, but that is the one that absolutely didnt work and made the screen look scary in 3d mode. (all white and cloudy)

But the one i had until today was this one:
Options->
Type: 55R1AF6E

SVD MENU->

T-con check-sum

.
And the one i changed to today was:

CSB: on
CLB: On

The ones highlighted is the ones with changed value.
The ones without any ' : ' didnt have any value behind it.

So to my question: Am i safe to assume that the type i changed to today is the right one?

I know this is the support site for samygo firmware and not necessarily the original samsung firmware. And in time i most likely cant control myself and will have to try to install the samygo firmware, but for now i still find it a bit scary since this incident. I'm also asking since i think this is the place with most comprehensive knowledge on the service menu and its settings.

ps. If you read through all of what i wrote thank you.
pps. if you have an answer to my question or a thought you would share doubble thank you.

regards,
