decrypted backup of recordings - howto

Post by GregTrewe »

I have the D8090 and installed the SamyGo 1090 FW. The recorded files are now not anymore encrypted, but I need to transfer these files to my Windows NTFS/FAT32 external HD, because after some time (always Murphys law when you don't expect it) the HD gets corrupt and won't read/record... I need backups!

Now there's the question what's the fastest way?
I think there are these possibilities:

1. using NTFS-3G drivers for recording
tried and failed for me, got always an error if I try to record.

2. Just copy with a FTP-program from TV -> PC (100mbit LAN cable)
it works but it's very slow for big HD recordings (around 1mb/s)

3. The fastest way is to copy directly the TV-HD to another HD (NTFS) using USB 3.0 port
a) Bootstick with Linux (NTFS write support) i.e. Parted Magic
b) Virtual Linux Sandbox on Win7/8
c) direct copy in Win OS7 or 8 - not possible

In my opinion the best choice is 3.a)

Best wishes

Hi Greg,
I used to go 3.a until I tried commercial software tool "ufsexplorer". The tool allows direct reading of xfs-partions from usb-storage connected to any windows-pc and is the fastest way for file-transfer I encounterd til now. Beside the "low-budget" variants for file-transfer only there are recovery versions also. Reading in other forums I found that some "lost" xfs-partions with tv-recordings could be reanimated with this soft. I could rescue data from a broken fat32-usb, were other tools failed, with it.
I'm far away from doing any promotion but if you are willing to spend some money you can give it a try.

Other comod way would be direct "recording to NAS" if you have installed SamyGo-extensions. You can find it in the forum, but you have to do some reading.
TV: UE46C8790, T-VALDEUC_1016, SamyGO: enabled via widget-hack
BD: D6900ZF, patched B-FIRURDEUC_1103: SamyGO widget running
