Subtitles over SamyGO Virt. USB (SAMBA)

Post by fluffi444 »

Hey Friends...

I don't know if this is known or an mistake by me but I cannot get subtitles working of my SAMBA shares (EDIT in WINDOWS)...

I'm talking about .srt files with (of course) the same name as the movie (.mkv) is...

For testing I put those two files (movie.mkv and movie.srt) on usual USB Device and it works flawlessly. Also PLEX did it well... But over Samba not... strange.

I seached the forum also and found only one post (F Series) were one User asked the same (Samba and subtitles) question... But he got no answer...

Any suggestions?

They work for me. All movies I watch are over samba.

Separate subtitles? (associated .srt file)
I just tried it also doesn't work there. Of course subtitles included in mkv are working...

My idea is that probably TV needs to write something in root of device/hidden files (.cm0012/.cmdb) for subtitles to be recognized. That would explain why it works on physical drive.
On virtual device, root correspond to no mount. Maybe solution would be to link/mount root somewhere to any temp r/w folder for TV to be able to write its (needed?) 'database'.
Else you can still include subtitles in mkvs using mkvmerge :)
I do NOT receive any PM. Please use forum.

Subtitiles over SamyGO Virt. USB (SAMBA) or samba mounted on regular USB (which is what I do) work flawlessly. Doesn't matter srt, txt, sub, etc :)

Incorrectly mounted samba share may be a culprit but it really doesn't matter since the point is this is not the problem with SamyGO :)
I do NOT support "latest fw" at ALL. If you have one you should block updates on router and wait for it to STOP being "latest":)
If you want me to help you please paste FULL log(s) to "spoiler"/"code" bbcodes or provide link(s) to pasted file(s) on https://pastebin.com Otherwise "NO HELP"!!!

My idea was wrong, it was just an idea :)
Funny, what I finally notice is that when I read a couple avi/srt shared from drive plugged to my router (Linux/NAS-like), it has subtitles displayed...
If I read the exact same couple of files, but shared by Windows, no subtitles are detected/displayed!
Maybe a clue?

Yeah sure. Incorrect permissions, don't ask how to set up correct ones. I don't use winshit :D

Thanks to all who put effort on this...
In the meantime I thing also it must be the Samba-Share by Windows (which it is here).

I think I will look around trying to find an solution for the incorrect permissions.

I think first step is to do a full permissions share... Right now my Sambda Share is limited to "User" TV with some specific permissions... will try this in the evening...

And: I didn't want to start an "I hate Windows" discussion :D
