Do you test that dongle under Linux? Which driver it uses under linux? Like in ubuntu or in suse? Do you sure about if it uses rt2870sta?

It is better to experiment some linux OS in 21.st century.
It's easier than windows. Just little different.
Also it's good start to learn linux. You don't know what you are missing by using Windows.

You can boot with Live linux CDs like ubuntu, suse. No installation req. for those live distros.
After you boot with it, you can open a Terminal screen at your desktop and plug the usb.
"dmesg" command will show you latest kernel action which includes USB WiFi's driver name...

OK, got Ubuntu 10.10 and used the command dmesg.
The dongle uses the driver RT2870.
Tried again attaching it to my TV, but nothing's happening.

It's good. But why it doesn't work? Answer is your Vendor:Device ID is not currently on rt2870sta's supported list. You needed to add your Vendor:Device ID to driver file and recompile it.
It's easy thing. What do you read when you make "lsusb"? Just related line is enough.
After adding IDis of your dongle, driver will be work as intended.

question is answered already: wiki page kernel driver rt3370sta.ko or rt3070sta.ko, if it's not in the
extensions pack for the model it comes may with next release.
