BD-F8500M - stuck on 'hello'

Post by bobetski »

Hi to everyone, this is my first post.

I was given a SMART Blu-ray player: BD-F8500M by a work colleague to look at. It was 14 months old and was working fine then suddenly no screens on TV. just the word 'hello' on the front of the player. on, off eject, open and close work fine and the HDD is spinning. As I cant see anything on TV screen or any menus I cannot try to use use firmware update software. I have tried holding stop and power for 10-15 secs but the machine just goes to 'off' and shuts down.

I came across the bricked tv thread and have located the E2prom/EEprom on the motherboard. next to the EEProm were some solder pads labelled:
EP_WPB
EP_SCLB
EP_SDAB
EP_GNDB
EP_VCCB

I soldered two wires. One to VCC and one to SDA and tried the idea of shorting the wire during switch on for 20 seconds.

However, the unit just says 'hello' as always and nothing has changed. The remote works for on off and eject also.

It is frustrating as all the power and hardware seems to function but nothing happens. just 'hello'.

On start up with dvd the drive spins for about a minute then stops.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

thanks
