successor for LE40C650?

Post by stm999999999 »

Hi!

I have an LE32C650 - great TV with a greater SamyGO! (thanks, thanks, thanks!)

Now, my parents want to buy a new 40" tv and I thought: ok, wonderfull, get them a LE40C650 and I can make the whole thing I did to me: root, SamyGO, network for mediaplayer, enble PVR with timeshift and recording to network.

But LExxC650 is nowadays sold second hand only, or highly expensive and actual there is a new product line, the D-line.

So: Can you give me an hint what tv is a good one for my parents?

What them need, is what I have with my LE32C650:

SamyGO to mount network shares to a fake usb drive for the mediaplayer and the pvr.
PVR/Timeshift: either enabled by Samsung or enabled by myself via hotel hack/service menu
DVB-C / CI+
everything an LE40C640 would give them :D
not to expensive :D

what them not need:

3D

D5000 series might good for 2D. It doesn't support 3D. I don't know if it supports PVR or will supported via SamyGO later.

Is there anybody who uses SamyGO with a new D-series tv?

D5xxx have three different firmwares according to model number! I tabulate them here, having inspected the available fw downloads on the Samsung UK website:

Code: Select all

Model Firmware Size/MB Features Added
D4000 T-MST4DEUC 31.73
D5000 T-MST4DEUC 31.73
D5500 T-MST4DEUCB 31.85
D5520 T-MST5DEUC 58.17 PVR can be enabled. Smart Hub
D6100 T-GAS6DEUC 86.15 3D. PVR already enabled.
D6500 T-GASDEUC 109.51 Built in Wifi, Web Browser, Social TV, Skype.
D7000 T-GAPDEUC 126.71 Wireless Remote
D8000 T-GAP8DEUC 126.71 Logo lights up on front of panel (!)
The model numbers listed are the first in numerical sequence to employ a given firmware. Other models are not included; for those simply look up the nearest "inferior" model in list eg D5700 has same firmware as D5520.

As you would expect, the firmware size increases as features are added. I've played with a UE32D5700 and was able to turn on PVR support in the Factory Service Menu. So PVR support exists in T-MST5DEUC, but I cannot say about D5000 or D5500, and their firmwares are around 37MB smaller!

Method not as per wiki, but using "Factory" and "3-speed" buttons to unlock greyed-out PVR menu item as described here: http://forum.samygo.tv/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2107

Yes, PVR worked, but navigation FF/RW was not as smooth as arm powered models.

I no longer have that set, so this is all from memory. The PVR menu item may well have been hidden, not greyed-out.

There was certainly no need to change the model number, simply enter the service menu and use ruSamsungTVCommunicator to reveal the hidden menus/menu items with the "factory" then "3speed" buttons.
