I was able to mount appext.img from D7/8 to my D6 series and get some missing stuff (WebKit) in same way
Also tried with exe.img from older models, got skype welcome screen, but not tested further. Bad thing, it didn't helped to run Browser.
Seems, some patching is needed probably.

According to the CY-STC1100 user guide, the camera works on:
D6500 LED & upwards,
D8000 PDP & up,
C7000 & up (but not 32" & 37" models).
