I'm pretty much a noob in this field. I'm afraid I don't understand most of the posts here and even the Samygo for Dummies wiki left me with a lot of questions

Nevertheless I hope somebody here can either help or just point me in the right direction... or simply give me a hope for the future

I bought the BD-D8900 a year ago and as many other (ordinary) users I have experienced a lot of bad annoyances, which Samsung refers to as "features". Here's a few of them:
- If I choose to "time shift" an ongoing program, (hit record, and I< to 'watch it from the beginning) playback will stop once the recording it self stops. No book mark is inserted so you have to fast forward to get back to where playback stopped.
- No default buffer around EPG scheduled recordings. The EPG is mostly not exact enough and you'll miss 1-2 minutes of the recording if you just use the EPG to schedule it. Only solution is to manually add a few extra minutes to the scheduled recording (which as a side effect will make the recording lose it's name).
- no recording function while using smart hub/internet
- while it's possible to record on an external drive, you cannot transfer existing recordings to an external drive.
- dialog box about what you should do after you pressed C to edit files... that's nice to know the first time, but once you've seen it 7 times you sort of got the idea
- you have to press C, then the file and then tools in order to edit/delete a file. Instead C should activate a "select more items" mode and tools should always bring up the full options for the selected file(s)
- generally there's a lot of dialogue boxes/message boxes that's more annoying than useful once you learn how to operate the machine (why is it that it has to tell you twice that a recording will start? - it should just start)
- what you won't be warned about is if you stretch the time shift too long time. It's not documented anywhere, but I tried twice that time shift will just stop if you've pressed pause for a long time (more than 30 minutes at least).
- this list could go on...
This list has been collected from a Danish forum for hifi-equipment so I know a lot of Danes are annoyed by these "features", but I'm guessing that the rest of the world faces these issues as well.
I have no hope in Samsung fixing these issues. Their support just told me this was like it was meant to be. I guess they rather have people buying a new machine with new flaws, but with the above fixed.
So... is there any chance that some skilled "hacker" would be able to reverse engineer/upgrade the firmware and fix any of these? Are there any projects/initiatives going on for making a new and better GUI for this machine or is SamyGO more about adding a few extra features for the advanced user? All though I have no ambitions about being able to contribute with hard-coding I would love to help with testing and giving feedback in such a project.
Thanks,
Ninecows
