i will ask just for completion and closing this, with witch filesystem is your external drive formated?
did you format it with your tv? if so its sure formated in some linux fileformat, witch can`t be read by windows.

Don't ever heard SRF format. I think it's better to make googling about it if there are any media player plays that format.

lot companies record video on there devices in own format, but most of them just add some headers and the rest is the normal recorded stream.
try to play it with mplayer, or upload first 2Mb of the file somewhere.
