Blocking Ads in Webbroser

Post by Timmy1024 »

Hi there,

If I have my TV rooted (UN55F8000), would it be possible to block all the zillion of ads that appear when using the native webbrowser?

One idea I had was to be able to replace the hosts file of the system with one of those already created by users that redirect ads domains to 127.0.0.1.

Would that be possible to achieve? Does the operative systema of the TV relies on such hosts file? Or is there any other better solution?

Thanks

if you have also installed the samygo extensions check the init script

Code: Select all

01_04_server_replacement.init
i personally like more to use own dns server (bind has nice 'view' clause).

Thanks for your reply arris!

I don't think I understood you though... what should I do with that init script? Can you tell me how you've set up your solution? Are you blocking ads too?

The DNS thing is the one thing I've tried first... I think you could actually do it within the standard TV itself, by manually assigning the DNS IPs and routing them through a DNS server. I've downloaded "mara DNS" (which was the first portable hit on Google) but it was too complicated to configure, so I let it go.

If you could let me (us) know how it works for you, it would be great.

Thanks again for your time

But I don't have a server set up... that's what I was asking for some guides as how to set up an ad blocking DNS server.

Thanks for your responses

May be possible to use telnet! Change "hosts" permissions then edit or replace by another one already filled.
