Sourcing our own player apps?

Please advise how to source our own apps when there is a problem with one in the database in the Extras forum, or say we want YouTube from a particular region. When the app is set to that region and we install the app, is there somewhere we can copy it from as to then page into /mtd_rwcommon/widgets/user?
